How long does it take to get an MC Number?
The FMCSA issues the MC Number 24 hours after the DOT Number. However, the MC Number is not active until you complete the mandatory 21-day protest period and you have met the other requirements of interstate authority.
To successfully activate the MC Number, the FMCSA requires a 21-day protest period. You must also have a valid BOC-3 on file as well. Finally, your insurance company will be required to file proof of insurance with the FMCSA, and the insurance coverage limits must meet the minimum requirements for the authority category you fall in. You have up to 90 calendar days to purchase a qualifying insurance policy and have your insurance company file proof of coverage. If insurance is not on file within that time frame, the FMCSA will automatically dismiss your application and you will have to reapply and repay the $300 fee.
